Grassmere Park Campground offers both tent and RV campsites in a peaceful, wooded setting. Fishing Creek in Columbia County runs right through our property and we are just 5 minutes from Rickett's Glen State Park's water fall trails.
We are the area's longest-running family-owned and operated recreational campground situated on a property that has served as a recreational destination since the late 1800's. When you camp with us, it's like taking a step back to a time when life moved more slowly and peacefully. You will wake up to the sounds of birds chirping, you will see squirrels and chipmunks scampering through the trees, you will here the creek babbling over rocks, and you might even catch a glimpse of white-tailed deer wandering through the campsites on their way to the creek, or our local family of Bald Eagles flying overhead.
Grassmere Park was once home to a minor league baseball team, who played on the field that now serves as the campground's activity field, hosting the beloved candy hunt on the former 2nd base, most holiday weekends. People from neighboring communities would ride the Bloomsburg-Sullivan railroad to Grassmere Park on the weekends, to watch baseball and picnic under the pavillions during the day and go dancing at the former dance hall, turned roller skating rink, in the evenings. The outdoor kitchen, pavilion, and a handful of cabins played host to the annual Farmer's Picnic, church camp meetings and even a few Izaac Walton League of America meetings during the early 1900's.
Today, the 4th and 5th generation of the Stanley and Ione Hess family continues to own and operate the property. The property contains 70 campsites, which were added to the property beginning in 1971 when it was incorporated as Grassmere Park Campground, by Fred Hess, grandson of Stanley and Ione. Fred's children and grandson, Miles Geffken, work to ensure our guests continue to enjoy a relaxing getaway in the great outdoors.
Our campsites are all located among tall pines and a variety of leafy trees. Several are situated along the waterways that surround the property. All of them are spacious.
Most of our campsites are seasonal (for those who want a spot to park their camper and then come-and-go all season long), which come with water, electric and septic hookups.
And we also have some campsites for use on a more temporary basis for those who want to camp short-term while they enjoy local attractions such as the water fall trails of Rickett's Glen, local antique shops, festivals, or just kicking back and relaxing around a campfire for the weekend. These sites come with water and electric hookups.
And for those who want to rough it, we offer a couple "primitive" tent sites that do not have any hookups.
